What Changes Behind the Wall
The drain in a tub alcove sits at one end, and a shower drain usually belongs near the center of the pan. Moving it is plumbing work, and in California a B-2 Residential Remodeling license does not cover substantial changes to major plumbing or electrical systems, so it is done under the right license class. When the valve or drain moves, the City of Anaheim Building Division inspects before walls close.
The finished shower is built to the 2025 California Building Standards Code, in effect since January 1, 2026, including a proper pan slope, waterproofed walls, and tempered glass. How long does a conversion take?
Most conversions take about one to two weeks. Tile work and the rough-in inspection by the City of Anaheim Building Division set the pace. You get a written schedule before we start so you can plan around the only full bath if that is your situation.
Will removing the tub hurt resale?
In many homes, no, as long as another tub remains in the house. If this is your only tub, we will talk through that tradeoff honestly at the estimate. In West Anaheim tract homes built in the 1950s and 1960s, a larger, safer shower is often the better fit for the people living there now.
What does converting a tub cost?
It depends on the base, the wall finish, the glass, and whether the drain has to move. We price it in writing after the visit. California law caps the deposit at a down payment of no more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less.
