Curbless or Low-Curb?
A curbless shower is flush with the bathroom floor. It looks clean and has nothing to trip on, but the floor has to be recessed or built up so water still runs to the drain. A low-curb shower keeps a short lip at the entry and is simpler to build on an existing slab or joist floor.
Homes built on a concrete slab, which may include some West Anaheim tract homes built in the 1950s and 1960s, need the slab recessed for a truly flush entry. Recessing a slab is possible but adds work; we check the floor at the estimate and tell you which option makes sense for your house.

Building It Right
Walk-in showers rely on slope and waterproofing more than any other shower, because there is no tall curb to hold water back. The floor has to pitch to the drain on every side, and the membrane has to run well past the wet zone. Drain and valve changes are licensed plumbing, and in California a B-2 Residential Remodeling license does not cover substantial changes to major plumbing or electrical systems. Everything is built to the 2025 California Building Standards Code, in effect since January 1, 2026 and inspected by the City of Anaheim Building Division when a permit is required.
Planning for the long term changes a few details: a handheld shower on a slide bar, a bench at seat height, a valve you can reach from outside the spray, and slip-resistant tile. None of it has to look institutional.

Can any bathroom have a curbless shower?
Most can, but the floor decides how much work it takes. In West Anaheim tract homes built in the 1950s and 1960s and other older houses, we check whether the floor is a slab that would have to be recessed for a truly flush entry. We look at your floor before recommending curbless or low-curb.
How long does walk-in shower installation take?
Plan on about one to three weeks, depending on floor work, tile, and glass. When a permit is required, the City of Anaheim Building Division inspects the rough-in before walls close, and we schedule around that.
Will water get out of a shower with no curb?
Not when the floor is sloped and the glass is sized correctly. A linear drain at the back or the entry and a fixed panel on the open side keep water where it belongs.
What will it cost?
It depends on the floor work, drain type, tile, and glass. You get a written price after the visit. California limits the deposit to a down payment of no more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less, and each later payment follows finished work.
